Introducing the Harvey and Bonny Gaffen Advancements in ALS Award Honorees

Join us at the Hope Through Caring Gala on May 21 when we present the Harvey and Bonny Gaffen Advancements in ALS Award to Joshua Cohen and Justin Klee, co-founders of Amylyx Pharmaceuticals.

Amylyx’s therapeutic compound for ALS, AMX0035, is currently under priority review with the FDA.

Although Josh and Justin didn’t have a personal connection to ALS, Josh recalls the decision to concentrate on ALS and neurodegenerative diseases: “As an undergraduate at Brown University, I became fascinated with the idea of neurodegeneration and why there was limited evidence behind its root cause. Out of my own curiosity, I read countless papers which all led to one question, ‘Why do neurons die?’ Alongside Justin, we founded a company to address this question.”

Justin shares, “From day one, we have felt so privileged to be a part of this community, fighting for new treatment options and change in a community that deserves better. What’s changed is while there was always amazing research and initiatives, it really feels like we’re in a new era now, and there’s greater hope than ever. It’s such an exciting time.”
