Evangelos and lab members also attended the Target ALS Meeting in New York City, where they were updated on the latest developments on ALS related research. The focus of the meeting was largely on the C9orf72 and efforts to understand how it contributes to disease and how its actions could be reversed. Although studies are on a very early stage, an exciting new molecule known as an anti-sense oligo can be targeted against the mutant copy of C9orf72 to reverse its damaging effects both in mice and human neurons.
